What that tells me is that there are others out there with the same problems… Glad I’m not the only one. I will say that Layla was quite difficult to train - I got her as a puppy and she wanted nothing to do with Kennel Training. You see, she’s quite the vocal dog (read: whiny)… when she was in the Kennel as a puppy she would whine so loud that I had no choice but to let her out.
What finally worked for Layla was just a lot of time outside with her. I would take her out and wait until the moment she did her ones and twos. I would repeat the word “potty” over and over again. She was rewarded with praise and immediately went back inside so she knew the purpose of being outside.
Frampton on the other hand came to me at 8 months old - and already had some bad habits. He was raised in a breeding environment and spent most of his time outside doing his business where he felt like it. I’m trying the training pad method now… I line them down his favorite hallway. He’s been alright at doing his numbers on them - but I feel like I am just giving him permission to do it inside. I think what I’ll do next, once he’s used to going on the pads, is move the pads closer to the back door - so he’ll get it in his head that the back door is where he need to go when he’s got to relieve himself.
I’ll keep you updated on his progress.
